Chocolate Smoothie Breakfast Bowl

Writer's picture: Nathalie MorrisNathalie Morris

Can you tell we love chocolate?

This is the best chocolate smoothie I have ever tasted, and it's made from just a few plant-based whole foods.

When we run out of spinach and we can't make our Green Smoothie Breakfast Bowl in the morning, we whip this up instead and we don't complain. This is healthy and energising, and it tastes like heaven.

We love to add a shot of espresso coffee per person to this one because the flavour works so well. If you don't drink coffee you can use plant-based milk or water instead.

Like all of our smoothie bowls, you can enjoy this as a snack on it's own or with a topping for breakfast.

Ingredients

Serves 1

Smoothie

1 banana

1 tbsp cacao powder

1/2 tsp cacao nibs (optional)

1/2 medjool date

1/2 tbsp tahini

pinch of chilli flakes

a shot of coffee (+ a couple of ice cubes)* or 1/4 cup plant-based milk (check out our cashew milk recipe)

or 1/4 cup water

Topping

muesli (use our homemade muesli recipe as a guide to make your own)

1 tbsp chia seeds (optional)

1 tbsp ground flax seeds (optional)

fruit/s of choice (apples, plums, berries, mango... they are amazing on this one)

Method

Blend all of the smoothie ingredients together. Enjoy as a drink! Or... Pour your smoothie into a bowl and top with muesli, seeds, fruit - anything you'd like!

Yum!

Notes

*When using coffee as the liquid in this smoothie, add a couple of ice cubes as well. This will cool it down, and keep the consistency smooth and creamy.
